It's a wireless response system that gives the instructor and students immediate feedback from the entire class. The wireless response pads are essentially remotes that are easy to use and engage students.

Using CPS in your class makes it possible for you to:
  • Motivate student preparation, interactivity, and active learning – get immediate feedback and know what they understand.
  • Administer quizzes and tests – with immediate grading!
  • Create a lecture with intermittent questions: multiple choice, T/F and subjective.
  • Use the CPS gradebook to manage your lectures and track student comprehension.
  • Establish accountability by giving you an automated way to take attendance.
McGraw-Hill Higher Education has partnered with eInstruction to bring CPS to your classroom at a substantial savings to you and your students. If you would like more information about adopting CPS for classroom use, please contact your McGraw-Hill sales representative.

If You're Already Using CPS

CPS v.3.4 introduced a new feature that allows PowerPoint users to "import" PowerPoint files and run them from within CPS. This is useful for instructors who integrate PowerPoint into lessons and presentations, and who would like to be able to use CPS at the same time to ask verbal questions, or even prepared CPS lessons and Fastgrade answer keys. This feature alleviates the problems that arise when PowerPoint takes over the whole screen, and it consolidates lesson materials and presentations into CPS together for more convenient management of materials and engaging of lessons.

PowerPoint questions are available that are specific to this textbook. Click below to download and save the PowerPoint files for use in CPS:

To use PowerPoint with CPS:

  1. In the main CPS window, go to the Lessons tab, and select the PowerPoint folder, so that it is highlighted.
  2. Click the Tools button, and select Add File. In the Add Files window, navigate to the PowerPoint presentation you want to bring into CPS, select it, and click Open.
  3. You should now see your PowerPoint file in the PowerPoint folder. (Note: The file is not imported into CPS; rather it is now referenced so that CPS can open it. This means the PowerPoint file you navigated to will need to stay in that directory in order for CPS to find it.)
  4. To engage the PowerPoint presentation, select it in the PowerPoint folder so that it is highlighted, and click Engage.
  5. The CPS Session Setup window will appear. Choose you setup options as you normally would to engage a lesson, and click Start.
  6. Your PowerPoint presentation will launch, and you will be able to start using it as you normally would. At the bottom of the screen, though, you will see a CPS Engage Toolbar which enables you to engage in verbal and chalkboard questions, on the fly at any point in the presentation.
