Glenda Strachan is Professor, Department of Employment Relations, in the Griffith Business School, Griffith University, Queensland. She has developed a body of research on contemporary and historical workplace change, especially issues that relate to equity and diversity and women’s working experiences. She has published extensively with John Burgess and more recently with Erica French in the area of equal employment opportunity in journals such as the British Journal of Industrial Relations, Equal Opportunities International, Women in Management Review and Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources. Glenda’s PhD from the University of Queensland was published in 1996 as Labour of Love: The History of the Nurse’s Association in Queensland 1860–1950 and her published historical work appears in journals such as Labour History and Continuity and Change as well as book chapters. Prior to becoming an academic she worked with trade unions.

Erica French is Director of Undergraduate Studies at Queensland University of Technology. Her PhD examined equity management in Australian organisations and she teaches in the area of equity and diversity management. Erica has published research on women in management, strategic change and equal employment opportunity in academic journals, such as the British Journal of Management, Women in Management Review, Equal Opportunity International and Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice. Since 2000 Erica has been President of the Equal Opportunity Practitioners Association of Queensland, a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing networking opportunities for equity practitioners. She is also a board member and founding member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Network Australia. Erica has been a consultant in the private and public equity-management sectors, as well as designing and delivering equity management training to management boards and work teams in private, public and non-profit organisations.

John Burgess is Professor, Newcastle Business School, The University of Newcastle, New South Wales. He is the coordinator of the Work and Organisation Group in the Centre for Institutional and Organisational Studies at the University of Newcastle. He has published extensively with Glenda Strachan in the areas of EEO in Australia, and women and work. His current research includes HR practices of multinational corporations, workplace change in call centres, and public policy and industry cluster development. Recent books include Industrial Relations in Australia (with Richard Sappey, Michael Lyons and Jeremy Buultjens); New Employment Actors: the Case of Australia (with Grant Michelson and Susanne Jamieson); International Perspectives on Temporary Agency Work (with Julia Connell).
