This well-received and authoritative text has been revised with the objective to increase the coverage and to aid the students in their efforts at self-study by including solved examples at the end of the chapters. The presentation is lucid and direct, and the pedagogy followed in the book would help the students having a firm grip on the basic concepts in mechanics. Although the book is largely based on Newtonian formulation, a separate chapter on Lagarangian and Hamiltonian formulations has been added in this edition. In addition, two new chapters on Mechanics of Continuous Media and Charged Particle Dynamics would make the book more useful. About 90 additional solved examples and another 90 unsolved problems would aid illustrate the concepts and give ample opportunity to practice to the students. The book would meet the requirements of the BSc Physics students of the Indian universities. |
