The field of human resource management is evolving at a very fast pace. During the last three years, since the publication of the second edition it has undergone significant changes. An attempt has been made in this edition to expand and update the existing chapters. In addition, three new chapters on Human Resource Planning, Internal Mobility, and Ethics and Human Resource Management have been added. A detailed discussion on dispute resolution strategies has also been added in the chapter on Industrial Relations in India. The general orientation of this edition has remained the same, i.e. conceptual and empirical. Extensive Indian studies published recently have been quoted to support or refute the concepts, theories and points of view discussed in this edition. It provides not only the conceptual and theoretical framework of human resource management but also their relevance and application in the Indian context. In that respect it is a "doers" book. Professionals, teachers, researchers and students of management would find this book a useful addition to existing body of knowledge. With the new and expanded coverage, the new edition would be a very useful text for courses on Human Resource Management. MIRZA S SAIYADAIN |
