C — the most widely used computer language — is being taught today as a core subject in almost all the undergraduate programmes. The second edition of this book has been used as a text in many colleges and universities. During the last few years, it has been specially adopted as a training manual by some leading software training and development organizations. The book is very popular among students and teachers alike for its unique and distinctive learning methodology and simple writing style.

This edition incorporates a number of suggestions received both from the students and the teachers who have been using the book for the last ten years. Salient features of the third edition include:

• Entire text and the programs therein have been reviewed and revised incorporating the feedback from the readers.



• Chapter-end exercises have been grouped into two categories namely Review Questions and Programming Exercises.



• Numerous objective-type questions and problem solving exercises have been added.



• Supplementary information and notes that complement but stand apart from the general text have been included in boxes.



• New section titled "Just Remember" has been added in many chapters. This section lists out helpful hints and possible problem areas.



• A new appendix titled "A Phone Book" has been added to provide a comprehensive experience in using the features of C language.
