Dr P Nageswara Rao received his B. E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Government Engineering College, Anantapur (Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati) in 1970, M. E. degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in 1973 and Ph. D. in 1981 from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India.

Currently working in the Department of Industrial Technology, University of Northern Iowa, USA, Dr Rao previously worked in MARA University of Technology, Shah Alam, Malaysia in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Before that, he worked with the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi from 1975 till 1997, the final position being Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department between 1990 and 1997. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he also worked at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani for a period of two years.

His active areas of research are Manufacturing Engineering, CNC, CAPP, CAD/CAM, CIM, Tool Design, Maintenance and Injection Moulding. He is the author and co-author of more than 150 papers published in various national and international journals and conferences.

He has wide interaction with the industry through the process of consultancy work and conducting continuing education programmes on various aspects related to modern manufacturing. He has received a number of grants from various bodies to support his research activities.

He has authored five other books Numerical Control and Computer Aided Manufacturing; Manufacturing Technology: Foundry, Forming and Welding, 2/e; Computer Aided Manufacturing; AutoCAD 14 for Engineering Drawing Made Easy; and Manufacturing Technology: Metal Cutting and Machine Tools, all published by Tata McGraw-Hill, New Delhi.

He is also a co-editor of Emerging Trends in Manufacturing (Proceedings of the 12th All India Machine Tool Design and Research Conference, 1986) published by Tata McGraw-Hill, New Delhi.
