About the Authors



Dr S N Sivanandam completed his B.E. (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) in 1964 from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore and M.Sc. (Engineering) in Power System in 1966 from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore (University second rank). He acquired Ph.D. in Control Systems in 1982 from Madras University. He has received the Best Teacher Award in the year 2001 and the Dhakshina Murthy Award for Teaching Excellence from PSG College of Technology. He received The CITATION for best teaching and technical contribution in the year 2002, Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has teaching experience (UG and PG) of over 37 years. The total number of undergraduate and postgraduate projects guided by him for both Cqmputer Science and Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering is around 300. He is currently Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.

Dr Sivanandam has published four books. He has delivered around 42 special lectures of different specializations in Summer/Winter schools and also in various Engineering colleges. He has guided 14 Ph.D. research works and at present 10 Ph.D. research scholars are working under him. The total number of technical publications credited to him in various national and international journals and conferences is around 300. He has chaired three International and five National conferences. He is a member of various professional bodies like IE (India), ISTE, CSI, ACS, etc. He is a technical advisor to various reputed industries and engineering institutions. His research areas include Modeling and Simulation, Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems and Genetic Algorithms, Pattern Recognition, Multi-dimensional System Analysis, Linear and Non-Linear Control Systems, Signal and Image processing, Power System, Numerical Methods, Parallel Networks, Data Mining and Database Security.

Dr S Sumathi did her B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Masters in Applied Electronics at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. She has done her Ph.D. in the area of Data Mining. She is currently working as Lecturer (selection grade) in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. She has about 14 years of experience in teaching and research. Her research interests include Neural Networks, Fuzzy Systems and Genetic Algorithms, Pattern Recognition and Classification, Data Warehousing and Data Mining, Operating Systems and Parallel Networks, etc.

Dr Sumathi has published several research articles in different national and international journals! conferences and guided many UG and PG projects. She received Gold Medal from the Institution of Engineers Journal, Computer Engineering Division, Subject Award for the research paper titled, "Development of New Soft Networks Models for Data Mining" in 2002-2003 and also the Best Project award for her UG technical report titled, "Self Organized Neural Network Schemes: As a Data Mining Tool", in 1999.

S N Deepa completed her RE. (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) degree from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore in the year 1999 and M.B. (Control Systems) from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore in the year 2004. She is a recipient of National Award from Indian Society of Technical Education for her M.B. Thesis. She has published papers in national/international journals. Her research areas include Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms, Non-Linear and Linear Control Systems, Digital Control Systems and Adaptive Control Systems.
