Jacob Millman, born in 1911, was Professor Emeritus of Columbia University, where he held the
Charles Bachelor Chair in Electronics. He obtained his B.S (1932) and Ph.D. (1935) in Physics
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His first graduate year was spent in Munich,
Germany (1932-1933). During World War II he worked on the development of radar systems at
the Radiation Laboratory of MIT (1942-1945). He taught Electrical Engineering at the City
College of New York (1936-1941 and 1946-1951) and at Columbia (1952-1975). He was named
Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering in 1965 and, on retirement, he became the
Charles Bachelor Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering. He wrote eight textbooks on
subjects in electronics from 1941-1987. Millman’s Theorem, otherwise known as Parallel Generator
Theorem, is named after him. Professor Millman died on 23rd May 1991. Herbert Taub, born in 1918, was Professor of Electrical Engineering and Physics. He received his
Bachelor of Science degree from the City College of New York and earned his Ph.D. in Physics
from Columbia University in New York. He was a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department
at City College, served as its Chairman for six years. Later, Professor Taub taught Physics at
Yeshiva University, in New York City. He authored several textbooks on various subjects in Electrical
Engineering. Professor Taub died on February 8, 2003. Mothiki S. Prakash Rao, born in 1956, is Professor of Electronics and Communications Engineering
at Adam’s Engineering College, Andhra Pradesh. He obtained his B.Tech (1978) and M.Tech
(1980) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University
College of Engineering (JNTU), Kakinada. He was exposed to research in electronics at
National Aeronautical Laboratory, Bangalore, as part of his graduate program. After a brief stint
of teaching (1980-1981) in Rastriya Vidyalaya College of Engineering, Bangalore, he joined
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Hyderabad as a Design Engineer (1981-1983). Thereafter, he
taught at Bapatle Engineering College (1983-2000) followed by Adam’s Engineering College
which he joined in the year 2000. He has been a member of the Board of Studies, Acharya Nagarjuna University,
for more than a decade. He has served the UPSC as an Advisor in
Electronics. He is a life member of the Indian Society for Technical Education,
Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, and Institution of Electronics and
Telecommunication Engineering. Prof. Prakash Rao has taught several subjects
in Electronics and Communications Engineering in his teaching career spreading
over more than two decades. He loves nature and prefers to work in peaceful
places away from the hustle and bustle of big cities. He lives in Paloncha with
his wife Saraswathi and his two sons. He has a reputation for presenting
difficult subjects in an easy-to-understand manner. He is well aware of the
problems faced by average and bright students. His current research interests
include Electromagnetic Fields, Digital Communications, and Digital Signal
Processing.
