About the Authors



Donald J. Bowersox is the John H. McConnell University Professor of Business at Michigan State University where he also served as Dean of the Business School. He received his Ph.D. at Michigan State and has worked in industry throughout his career. He is the author of numerous articles in publications such as the Harvard Business Review, Journal ofMarketing, Journal ofBusiness Logistics, and Supply Chain Management Review. Dr. Bowersox has led a number of industry supported research studies investigating the best practices of logisticians in North America and around the world. He is a frequent speaker at industry and academic meetings.

David J. Closs is the John H. McConnell Chaired Professor of Business Administration at Michigan State University. He received his Ph.D. in marketing and logistics from Michigan State. Dr. Closs is the author and co author of many publications in journals, proceedings, and industry reports. He was also a principal researcher for World Class Logistics: The Challenge of Managing Continuous Change and 21st Century Logistics: Making Supply Chain Integration a Reality, completed at Michigan State University and published by the Council of Logistics Management. Dr. Closs' primary interests include logistics strategy, development and application of computer models and information systems for logistics operations and planning, and developing secure supply chains. Dr. Closs is a frequent speaker at industry and academic conferences and presenter at executive education programs. Dr. Closs formerly served as the editor of the Journal of Business Logistics and is currently the Executive Editor of Logistics Quarterly.

M. Bixby Cooper is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at Michigan State University. He is co author of three texts on distribution and logistics, including World Class Logistics: The Challenge of Managing Continuous Change published by the Council of Logistics Management and Strategic Marketing Channel Management published by McGraw Hill. His research has focused on logistics best practices in customer service and in performance measurement. He also served for four years on the Executive Board of the International Customer Service Association as Head of the Research and Education Committee.
