Ratios and Proportions

Equivalent ratio  A ratio obtained from another ratio by multiplying each term by the same number, or by dividing each term by the same number.

Exchange rate  (between two currencies) The amount of one currency required to purchase one unit of the other currency.

Lowest terms  (of a ratio) The equivalent ratio having the smallest possible integers for its terms.

Proportion  A statement of the equality of two ratios.

Proration  A procedure in which an amount is subdivided and allocated on a proportionate basis.
