Measuring Mutual Fund Performance: The Vanguard Group
(http://www.vanguard.com/educ/lib/plain/performance.html)

While past performance may help you to better understand a fund's risk and return characteristics, history is not a reliable predictor of future results. It's also important to study the fund's current characteristics, which can give you a sense of how the fund may perform going forward.
