Go to www.morningstar.com and select the tab entitled FUNDS. In the dialog box for selecting a particular fund, type WDOWX and hit the GO button. This will provide a Quicktake Report on the TD Waterhouse Dow 30 fund. Find the fund’s top 5 individual holdings from the displayed information. Write down the names of each holding.

Once you have obtained this information, go to www.financialengines.com. On the home page, click on First Time Users “Start Here”, and then click on the Site map tab below. From the site map, select the Funds Scorecard tab under Forecast & Analysis. You will find a dialog box that allows you to search for funds or individual stocks. Click on “stocks” and enter the name for each of the individual stocks you wrote down. Then click on “mutual funds” and enter WDOWX. Compare the risk rankings for the individual securities with the risk ranking of the fund. What factors are likely leading to the differences in the individual rankings and the overall fund ranking?
