Many introductory education courses offer fieldwork at a school site as part of the class requirements. By participating in hands-on experiences in the field, education students may have opportunities to observe teaching practices, assist with instructional activities, and mentor children. This helps students to connect learning theory with real-world applications in the classroom. When going to your observation site, bring your journal and answer the following questions. These exercises link to the content for this chapter of the text.

1

Choose two students at your observation site. Compare their learning styles and intelligences. How well do you think their needs are being met? Why?
2

Identify ways that the teacher at your school site meets the needs of multiple learning styles and intelligences. Describe a specific activity that integrated two or more learning styles.
3

Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the teacher in addressing individual variations of students at your school site. What recommendations would you make to better serve the student population?
