What to Do, What to Do
Prompt and effective handling of potential behaviour problems can minimize classroom disruptions. In a group with two or three of your colleagues, discuss appropriate strategies for handling each of the following students:
• Christina, a girl who likes to intermittently utter profanities
• Bruce, a boy who tells you to quit bugging him when you ask him questions
• Larissa, a student who frequently talks with other students around her while you are teaching a lesson
In your portfolio, write about the nature of these disruptions and how you might possibly handle them

The Power of Imitation
An important principle of Bandura’s social cognitive theory is that exposure to positive role models can alter students’ attitudes. Bandura emphasizes the importance of modelling as a way of teaching. Does a teacher’s behaviour and attitude in the classroom influence students’ behaviours and attitudes? Do television, movies, magazines, music videos, and other media affect how students behave in the classroom? How might you overcome the effects modelling that these media present to your students?

A Self-Regulation Scenario
Consider the following scenario. Jane is a high school student who doesn’t have adequate self-regulatory skills, and consequently this is causing her serious academic problems. She does not plan or organize, she has poor study strategies, and she does not manage her time well. Using Butler’s model, design an effective self-regulation program for Jane and include the plan in your portfolio.
