Many introductory education courses offer fieldwork at a school site as part of the class requirements. By participating in hands-on experiences in the field, education students may have opportunities to observe teaching practices, assist with instructional activities, and mentor children. This helps students to connect learning theory with real-world applications in the classroom. When going to your observation site, bring your journal and answer the following questions. These exercises link to the content for this chapter of the text.

1

How does Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences inspire authentic learning and thinking at your observation site?
2

Describe any behavioral approaches to learning that the teacher at your site uses for behavior management or instruction. To what degree is the approach successful? Share evidence to support your statements.
3

Think about the teacher at your site. How would you characterize his or her attitude, personality, and emotional well-being? To what extent do the students in the classroom reflect the teacher's behavior and traits? Do you think a teacher's attitude influences student behaviors in the classroom? Why or why not?
