Feature Summary
Balance of Canadian, American, and International Material In proportions of 35% Canadian, 15% American, and 50% international, the Second Canadian Edition of Management Information Systems for the Information Age accurately represents the ongoing trend towards international business in the information age, but from a Canadian perspective. Including up-to-date Canadian and international Industry Perspectives and Global Perspectives, as well as opening and closing Case Studies, students will read about MIS in the real world, learning about applications in companies both new and familiar to them.
New and Revised Content Responding to a market need for more technological coverage, the Second Canadian Edition includes a new chapter on IT Infrastructures (Chapter 7), with in-depth discussion of networks, productivity, CRMs, SCMs, and more. As well, acting on reviewer feedback, the former chapters on Preparing for the Future and Emerging Technologies have been melded together into the new capstone chapter, “Emerging Trends and Technologies” (Chapter 9). Additional substantial changes include a radical reworking of Chapters 1 (“The Information Age in Which You Live”), 5 (“Electronic Commerce”), and 8 (“Protecting Information and People”), as well as updating of examples and topical coverage throughout the text.
Extended Learning and Skills Modules Package The Second Canadian Edition of Haag includes six Extended Learning Modules on databases, security and privacy, networking basics, the Internet, hardware and software, and object-oriented technologies. These modules have been heavily reworked from previous editions, and now include self-testing exercises and learning objectives. Additionally, four new Skills Modules, referenced throughout the text, have been added to the CD-ROM accompanying the text. These Skills Modules include hands-on instruction for students interested in Microsoft Excel, Access, HTML, and e-Portfolios. Both the Extended Learning Modules and Skills Modules are self-contained units, and can be easily covered by instructors at any point in their courses, or not at all.
New Design The interior and cover design of the Second Canadian Edition represents a radical departure from any of the previous Canadian or US designs. Moving to a much cleaner, single-column design, with overhauled palette and design of pedagogical boxes, the new Canadian edition is sure to appeal to instructors and students alike.
Integrated Coverage of e-Commerce & Technology throughout e.g e-marketplaces, viral marketing, personalization, eCRM, filing sharing (peer to peer), cyberservices, interactive television, etc.
