About the Authors
RICHARD G. DONOVAN
RICHARD G. DONOVAN is a Faculty Lecturer and IS area coordinator in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. He holds a B.Comm. with a major in MIS and a concentration in Marketing, as well as a Certificate in Public Relations from the same university. In addition, Richard has a graduate diploma in Instructional Technology from Concordia University.
Prior to joining McGill full-time in July 1997, Richard Donovan worked at a top Canadian life insurance company for eight years, where he held positions such as Systems Consultant, Senior Training and Development Consultant, and as a production manager supervising a staff of 18. Since his arrival at McGill, he has won outstanding teaching awards and student life awards on 12 occasions.
While holding the position of Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Program from January 2001 to December 2004, Richard managed the growth of the program from 1750 students to 2250. He was responsible for ensuring the quality of the program, course content, and delivery. He continues to design and teach courses in the areas of IS and strategy, specializing in information systems, IT in business, and case analysis and presentation.
Richard specializes in cost/benefit analysis of IT projects and the integration of IT into organizations, as well as instructional design, team facilitation, and presentation skills. He teaches executives at the McGill International Executive Institute and the Centre for International Management Studies (CIMS), and in McGills MBA/Japan program.
ALAIN PINSONNEAULT
ALAIN PINSONNEAULT is the Imasco Chair of IS and James McGill Professor in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California. Prior to joining McGill University in 1999, he was an associate professor at HEC-Montréal. Alain Pinsonneault has won numerous awards for both his research and teaching, including the prestigious Doctoral Award of the International Centre for Information Technology and MCI Communications in 1990, the Person of the Week of La Presse in 1991, most promising of HEC alumni in 1995, and the CDROM-SNI award for his innovative use of information technologies in teaching.
He has published numerous papers in journals such as Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Organization Science, Journal of MIS, Small Group Research, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Electronic Collaboration, and European Journal of Operational Research. He is a member of the editorial board of MIS Quarterly, Organization Science, and Information Systems Research.
STEPHEN HAAG
STEPHEN HAAG is a professor in and Chair of the Department of Information Technology and Electronic Commerce in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Stephen is also the Director of the Masters of Science in Information Technology program and the Director of the Advanced Technology Center. Stephen holds a B.B.A. and M.B.A. from West Texas State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Stephen is the coauthor of numerous books including Business Driven Technology (with Amy Phillips and Paige Baltzan), Interactions: Teaching English as a Second Language (with his mother and father), Information Technology: Tomorrows Advantage Today (with Peter Keen), Excelling in Finance, and more than 40 books within the I-Series. He has also written numerous articles appearing in such journals as Communications of the ACM, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, International Journal of Systems Science, Managerial and Decision Economics, Applied Economics, and Australian Journal of Management. Stephen lives with his wife, Pam, and their four sons Indiana, Darian, Trevor, and Zippyin Highlands Ranch, CO.
MAEVE CUMMINGS
MAEVE CUMMINGS is a professor of Information Systems at Pittsburg State University. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science, an M.B.A from Pittsburg State, and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has published in various journals including Journal of Global Information Management and Journal of Computer Information Systems. She serves on various editorial boards and is a coauthor of Case Studies in Information Technology and the concepts books of the I-Series, entitled Computing Concepts. Maeve has been teaching for 20 years and lives in Pittsburg, KS, with her husband, Slim.
DONALD J. McCUBBREY
DONALD J. McCUBBREY is a professor in the Department of Information Technology and Electronic Commerce and Director of the Center for the Study of Electronic Commerce in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. He holds a B.S.B.A. in Accounting from Wayne State University, a Master of Business from Swinburne University of Technology in Victoria, Australia, and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Maribor, Slovenia.
Prior to joining the Daniels College faculty in 1984, he was a partner with a large international accounting and consulting firm. During his career as an IT consultant he participated in client engagements in the United States as well as in several other countries in the Americas and Europe. He has published articles in Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Information Technology and People, and MIS Quarterly, and coauthored the systems analysis and design text Foundations of Business Systems. He is an associate editor of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems. He is a cofounder and director emeritus of the Colorado Software and Internet Association and lives in the Colorado foothills with his wife, Janis.
