Supplements

For the Student:
  • iStudy Managerial Accounting: This innovative online study space helps students master the concepts with all of the learning tools they’ve come to expect, including multiple-choice and true/false quizzes, chapter-by-chapter learning goals, and key term reviews, plus videos, factory tours, and pre- and post-diagnostic assessments that point them to the concepts they need to focus on to improve their grades. Students can choose from all of these features to create their own personalized study plan—iStudy offers the best, most convenient way to Learn, Interact, and Succeed!

iStudy access is available in several ways. It may be bundled with the Garrison text in a package, purchased directly through the Online Learning Centre, or purchased (PIN code card) through the campus bookstore.

Instructors: Please contact your McGraw-Hill Ryerson iLearning Sales Specialist for more information on how to make iStudy part of your students success.

  • Online Learning Centre. The Student Centre is designed to complement the text. It includes an additional chapter, online appendices, and chapter specific multiple-choice quizzes.

  • Lyryx Assessment for Managerial Accounting. Lyryx is a leading-edge online homework assessment system which delivers significant benefits to both students and instructors. The assessment takes the form of a homework assignment called a Lab, which corresponds to the chapters in the Garrison text. The Labs are algorithmically generated and automatically graded, so students get instant scores and feedback. After registering their course with us, instructors can create labs of their choice by selecting problems based on their needs, and set a deadline for each one of these Labs. Instructors have access to all the students’ marks and can view their best Labs. At any time, instructors can download the class grades for their own programs to analyze individual and class performance.

If students are doing their managerial accounting practice and homework, they will improve their performance in the course. Recent research regarding the use of Lyryx has shown when Labs are tied to assessment, even if worth only a small percentage of the total grade for the course, students will do their homework – and even more than once. The result is improved success in managerial accounting!

For the Instructor:
  • Instructor Centre of the Online Learning Centre . This all-in-one resource includes the following:

    • Solutions Manual. This supplement contains completely worked-out solutions to all assignment material and a general discussion of the use of group exercises.

    • Instructor’s Manual. This supplement provides extensive chapter-by-chapter notes to help with classroom presentation, and useful suggestions for presenting key concepts and ideas. In addition, the manual contains suggested course outlines and a listing of exercises, problems, and cases scaled according to difficulty.

    • Computerized Test Bank. Approximately 2,000 questions are organized by chapter and include true/false, multiple-choice, and essay questions, plus computational problems. The computerized test bank also includes an algorithmic problem generator that replicates the structure of select text problems while populating them with fresh numbers. This provides instructor’s with the ability to create unique versions of each homework assignment, quiz or test.

    • Microsoft© Excel© Templates. These Excel templates offer solutions to the student exercises.

    • Microsoft© PowerPoint© Slides Chapter-by-chapter slides offer a great visual complement for lectures.

  • iStudy. In partnership with Youthography, a Canadian youth research company, and hundreds of students from across Canada, McGraw-Hill Ryerson conducted extensive student research on student study habits, behaviours, and attitudes – we asked questions and listened…and we heard some things we didn’t expect.  We had two goals: to help faculty be more efficient in and out of the classroom by providing a study tool that would help them improve student engagement and to help students learn their course material and get better grades.  Through this research, we gained a better understanding of how students study – and how we could make vast improvements to our current online study tools.  The result is a study tool that students overwhelming said is better and there’s nothing else like it out there. iStudy really is the first study tool built by students for students. And iStudy assessment activities don’t stop with students. There is material for instructors to leverage as well. For Managerial Accounting, this includes quizzes you can use in class, assign as homework, or add to exams.
