Learning Objectives:

This lesson introduces the class to video concepts and shows how it can be used in computer-based projects. At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
  • Consider the implications of using digital video in multimedia
  • Discuss video analog and digital technologies and displays
  • Work with digital video containers and codecs to select the best video recording formats for multimedia projects
  • Find and acquire video clips
  • Shoot and edit video for use in multimedia
Video is likely the most engaging element that can be put into a multimedia presentation. It is especially useful for showing movement and for building excitement. Video can also speed up motion so that we can see changes that occur slowly, such as a flower opening, or it can slow down motion that occurs quickly, such as the wing movement of a hummingbird. Full-motion video is an integral part of modern life. Yet, although almost everyone views and uses video, creating quality video is still a complicated and often expensive and time-consuming process. Fortunately, modern digital technology is making high-quality video more accessible for multimedia developers. This lesson introduces multimedia designers to video concepts and describes some of the considerations when working with video and computers.
