Art and Artists

Artists: Jacob Lawrence

Jacob Lawrence began painting as a young man in Harlem in the early 1930s. He is best known for his series on subjects from American history, including those depicting scenes from the lives of Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and John Brown.

Artists: Paul Cezanne The life and struggles of Cezanne reveal incredible strength of character. Cezanne maintained a diligent relationship with his artistic ideals and craft in order to insure the intangible value of his work, regardless of critical or public opinion. He may have been a grumpy guy who took little pleasure in acclaim when it finally came his way, but he surely took personal pleasure in pursuing his projects on his own terms.
