Revision Changes
New to This Edition
In response to professor feedback, the number of regular chapters has been reduced from 16 to 15, resulting in a text that is more manageable for both quarter and semester system programs.
Each chapter now begins with a two-page opening spread that previews the themes, readings, and grammar of the chapter. Beautiful fine art and photographs, coupled with communication questions, stimulate class conversation and encourage a preliminary exploration of the theme. The opener also includes a sections that directs professors and students to the Dos mundos website, video, and CD-ROM.
Engaging new cultural sections called Ventanas culturales examine topics including the arts, the Hispanic community, language, and places of interest.
A new cultural magazine, Vida y cultura, appears after Capítulos 4, 9, and 15 and offers additional pleasure reading for students.
Select chapter themes have been updated in the fifth edition, introducing topics that reflect current issues and student interests.
Many of the Lecturas and Notas culturales have been revised and updated, and are also available in audio format on the Listening Comprehension Cassette (or CD) that is now packaged free of charge with every new copy of the textbook.
Features
Praised by professors and students across the country for its engaging content and innovative approach to language instruction, Dos mundos continues to be one of the best-selling beginning Spanish language textbooks available today.
Dos mundos is successful because it teaches students how to communicate in Spanish, not just how to construct language and conjugate verbs. Chapters are built around topics for conversation, not around grammatical structures.
Readings in the form of authentic texts, realia, and cultural notes provide additional language input to students while simultaneously helping develop reading skills. Annotations for instructors offer suggestions for pre-reading activities as well as other tips for effective reading.
The grammar explanations and practice exercises are presented at the end of each chapter, in special "blue pages". This modular organization allows instructors to start either with the communicative activities or with the grammar, depending on their preference.
