About the Authors

Nancy Hamilton is a Professor in the department of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Studies at the University of Northern Iowa. She is a native of California. She received a B. A. in Physical Education from San Jose State University. Dr. Hamilton taught physical education and coached several sports at John Muir High School in Pasadena for 12 years. She received an M.A. degree from California State University at Los Angeles while she was teaching. In 1982 Dr. Hamilton began her Ph.D. work at Washington State University, transferring to the University of Illinois where the degree was completed. Dr. Hamilton has been at UNI since 1987. During tenure at UNI Dr. Hamilton has been active in IAHPERD, serving in a variety of roles, including President and Convention Manager. Dr. Hamilton is currently the Coordinator of the Physical Education Division for the School of HPELS. Current research interests are the biomechanics of gait in obese children, ergonomics, and general sport biomechanics.

Kathryn Luttgens is Professor Emerita from Northeastern University in Boston Massachusetts. She received her B.S. from Dougals College of Rutgers University, her M.S. from Wellesley College and her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Thomas "TK" Koesterer, Ph.D., ATC, (PowerPoint author)
Thomas "TK" Koesterer is an assistant professor and director of the athletic training education program in the Department of Health & Physical Education at Humboldt State University. He received a Doctorate of Philosophy in Exercise Physiology at the University of Florida, while completing research in the area skeletal muscle contractile properties and biochemistry. Prior to that time, TK was the head athletic trainer and an instructor in the Department of Physical Education at the United States Military Academy, West Point for five years, where he received a number of commendations and awards for his service. He completed a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in Athletic Training at S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training at S.U.N.Y. at Cortland. TK has been a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 1987, and is also a member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
