American Family
"American Family" is a new television show. It is about an American family who lives in East Los Angeles. It is a very important program because it is the first Latino series on network television.
"American Family" focuses on the Gonzalez family. Jess Gonzalez is a conservative father who lives with his daughter, Nina, his two sons, Esteban and Cisco, and Esteban's son, Pablito. Aunt Dora lives in the house next door. Esteban is trying to rebuild his life after being in prison. Nina moves home after her mother dies in order to take care of her father and to help raise her nephew. She is a feminist lawyer, and she and her father disagree a lot. Cisco, the youngest brother, spends much of his time making videos of the family and posting them on his Web site.
Television often changes with society. "American Family" reflects the changing family in the United States. It depicts a Latino family which is just like any other American family yet with its own cultural identity. It also shows that all families have similar struggles, even if they have different backgrounds. Most importantly, "American Family" shows how family members help each other with difficult problems.
The television show's plans for the future also reflect the changing American family. First, it will air on public television in English. Then it will be broadcast in Spanish on Telemundo, a Spanish-language network. This way both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking Americans will enjoy the show.
