A Dream Narrative
This is the dream of a 35-year-old executive from New York. She is single and works over 60 hours a week. She is seeing a psychologist because she is stressed at work. The psychologist told her to write down her dreams. This is her dream from February 6.
Dream 2/6: In my dream I was at the office, but it didn't look like my office. It looked different. The halls were really long and dark, and there weren't any people around. I walked around trying to figure out where I was. I began to feel nervous. Suddenly, my boss appeared. He asked me if I was ready for the presentation. "What presentation?" I thought to myself. I said yes and started walking faster, trying to find my desk. The hallways looked unfamiliar, and all of the offices were empty. I started running down the hallways. I had to find my desk in order to read my notes and see what the presentation was supposed to be about, but I couldn't find it anywhere. It was getting late.
The next thing I knew, I was in a big hall, on a stage, with a microphone in front of me. The hall was full of people, and they were all looking at me, waiting for me to speak. I looked at them and opened my mouth, but no sound came out. I tried to talk, but I couldn't. Everyone laughed and pointed at me. Then my boss ran onto the stage, and he took the microphone away from me. "I'm very disappointed," he said. "You used to be one of our best employees." I tried to explain what had happened, but he wouldn't listen to me. He just kept telling me how disappointed he was. I wanted him to stop. While he was talking to me, I started to cry. Finally, I woke up.
