Online Love Story

Narrator: This is a story of two strangers and the Internet.

Patrick: It was one of those things. I had come home from work late, couldn't sleep, and here you are, lonely, for lack of a better word, and I decided to get online and see who's online and jumped into a chat room.

Narrator: And that's how Patrick first met Besna.

Besna: I went to the chat rooms to have fun: to chat, to talk about movies....

Patrick: I said, you know, "Are you male or female?" She said female. I'm like, "What do you look like?" you know, "Oh, you won't run from me" and I'm like " Yeah, if I had a nickel for every time I heard that one, I'd be a rich man and I wouldn't even be on here!

Narrator: Needless to say, Patrick and Besna hit it off, typing away until the wee hours of the morning. By that time, Besna was feeling the connection.

Besna: So I told him, "I'm going to go visit you today!"

Patrick: No, I don't have a picture of this woman. I don't know anything about her other than what we've chatted about on the Internet.

Besna: So, that was at like 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning, and at 1:00 pm I was here in the office saying "Hi, how are you?"

Narrator: As it turns out, Patrick and Besna lived only five minutes away from each other and they knew some of the same people. They got along so well, two weeks after their first online chat, they were engaged to be married. But friends doubted the whole thing.

Patrick: They think it's just crazy, I mean when they found out I had met someone on the Internet and here it is two weeks later we're engaged and then we're gonna get married, they were like "What are you doing? What are you thinking?"

Besna: Yeah, a lot of people predicted, they said "Six months and it will be over." Instead, in six months, Patrick and Besna were husband and wife.

Patrick: She's my princess. She is just...she's adorable!

Besna: My soulmate. He made me laugh, he made me feel good about myself.

Narrator: The two realize this may never had happened had it not been for the Internet. So now, two years later, Patrick and Besna have launched an interactive Web dating site called the Romance Network.

Patrick: We started off signing up maybe five people a day, and now we're going to about five people an hour are signing up from all over the world.

Narrator: The Romance Network pairs up potential couples based on their preferences, and with thousands of members, it's obvious, people are too busy to find that perfect someone on their own. Patrick and Besna are living proof that online relationships can work.

Besna: I just had that feeling when, you know, and I just had that feeling, I just knew that he was the one.

Narrator: But they say it also takes a little fate before things click.

Computer: Goodbye.
