Stock Investor Pro Questions

Please use your AAII Stock Investor Pro CD to complete the following exercises.

1.
a. Go to www.nyse.com and click on The New York Stock Exchange’s “Listed Companies.” Click on geography and then regions to find the companies for this project. Use the Portfolio Editor to create a portfolio of 10 firms from each of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom (if 10 firms are not listed for a particular country, use all those companies that are listed). Perhaps the best way to accomplish this is as follows: (1) enter the ticker symbol of a company, (2) note the company’s country as shown on the Overview tab, Description sub-tab, (3) enter the tickers for a specific country into the Portfolio Editor, and (4) save the portfolio.
b. Create a View using the View Editor that shows the price-earnings ratio, dividend yield, price-sales ratio, price-book value ratio, institutional holding percentage, and insider holding percentage. Analyze the report for each of the portfolios created in exercise 1a and comment on any patterns you observe.
c. Prepare a second View that shows the payout ratio, current ratio, longterm debt to capital, return on assets, and return on equity. Analyze the report for each of the portfolios created in exercise 1a and comment on any patterns you observe.
2.
a. Isolate those companies that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average using the Screen Editor and analyze them using the same reports created in exercises 1b and 1c.
b. Using the reports created in exercises 1b and 1c, compare the characteristics of U.S. firms with those of the firms from the six countries in exercise 1a. Comment on your findings.
