adverse selection  The problem in insurance in which those who need it most are the only ones willing to pay for it, thus driving the price up and driving out those who need it somewhat less.
gatekeeper  Doctor who treats general afflictions and refers patients to specialists.
Medicaid  Public health insurance in the United States which provides health care for the poor.
Medicare  Public health insurance in the United States which covers those over age 65.
Medicare Park B  The voluntary part of Medicare that pays for doctor visits.
Medicare Part A  The compulsory part of Medicare that pays for hospitalization expenses.
third-party payer  An entity other than the producer or consumer who pays the costs of a good or service.
