The Central Middle Ages: Reform, Revival, and Expansion
Literature, Art, and Thought
Medieval History 9e Cover

Web Exercises

Skill Goal: Building a website
Subject: "Medieval" style buildings in your area

This is a tough assignment, and if done, teachers might think of assigning extra credit.

Take a look at Medieval New York, a website created by students at Fordham University in 1996-98. Their job was to go out into New York and "find the Middle Ages." Obviously, in many other areas of the world, that might seem a harder task. In many places, however, it is less hard than you might imagine owing to the habits of church builders, who commonly mine the architecture of the Middle Ages for ideas.

Students who undertake this project then should seek out Romanesque, Byzantine, or Gothic Style buildings, and create an illustrated website about the building, its architecture, and its history.
