Developing and Assessing Physical Fitness

Additional Lab Activities

1. Ask four people from varying age groups the following question: "What does physical fitness mean to you?" Discuss the results.

2. List the ways the university (or employer) both encourages and discourages physical fitness.

3. List ways that you could add physical activity to your daily life.

4. Chart your basal morning pulse for a two week period. Discuss the results.

5. List the common excuses for not exercising and strategies for dealing with these excuses.

6. Complete the Personal Fitness Profile. Discuss the weak areas. Based on the results, design an exercise program which will improve your weak areas. Describe the program.

7. Research alternate fitness assessment methods (i.e., bioelectrical impedance, hydrostatic weighing, other flexibility tests, other strength and endurance tests).
