Maximizing Your Heart Health

Additional Lab Activities

  1. List the ways to encourage and support heart health for each of the following categories: your friends and family, the university, community, and/or employer.
  2. Keep a two-day log of daily choices/influences that effect heart health. These should include both positive and negative influences. (For example: walk to class versus riding the bus; your food choices; elevator versus stairs; magazine and billboard advertisements observed; refusing or accepting cigarette offer, etc.)
  3. Complete the Are You At Risk? Lab Activity (7-1) then have four friends complete it. Compare the scores and list the primary and secondary risk factors for each. Discuss ways to reduce the scores and risk factors.
  4. Make a list of all the foods you consume for one week that contain partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated fats in them. Discuss your findings. Were you surprised?
