About the Authors

Jeffrey E. Cohen received his Ph. D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1979 and specializes in American politics and public policy with an emphasis on the Presidency. Before joining the faculty at Fordham University in 1997, he taught at a number of institutions, including the University of Illinois-Urbana and the University of Kansas.

Publishing credits include the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of Politics and he is co-editor of American Political Parties: Resurgence and Decline, CQ Press; 2001.

In addition Jeff Cohen has written numerous books, including Politics and Economic Policy in the United States, 2nd edition, Houghton-Mifflin; 2000 and Presidential Responsiveness and Public Policy Making: The Public and the Policies that Presidents Make, University of Michigan Press; 1997, which won the 1998 Richard E. Neustadt Award from the Presidency Research Group of the American Political Science Association.

David Nice received his Ph. D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1979 and has taught at Indiana University, University of Georgia and Washington State University. His publications include Public Budgeting; Wadsworth, 2002, Politics and Policy in States and Communities, (with John Harrigan), 7th edition, 2001 , and Amtrak: The History and Politics of a National Railroad, (Amtrak). Personal interests include traveling by train (David is a member of the National Association of Railroad Passengers); reading, especially history, philosophy, or religion; and playing the piano and guitar.
