Designing Your Speech: Organizing Your Ideas

Internet Exercises

Designing Your Speech: Organizing Your Ideas

Exercise 1 Subject: Visit the History Channel's collection of great speeches

See how the great speeches of our times have been constructed. The History Channel's website, www.historychannel.com, has a sub-site dedicated to warehousing memorable public addresses.

Take your web-browser to: www.historychannel.com/speeches/index.html

How did these speeches use order, structure, and subordination to make their point? Or did they make their point at all?

Exercise 2 Subject: Website organization

Your textbook asked you to evaluate the order and structure of several websites. We would like you to reflect upon that exercise. Having evaluated these websites, what content should be included on most organizational websites?

How would you, for instance, organize the content headings of your favorite organization or association? Provide an example, please.

Exercise 3 Subject: Using the E-library

One of the more innovative tools to hit the Internet is the E-library, found at http://www.elibrary.com. Perform a search on your topic using E-library's "free trial" service. Upon completion, organize this material into a rough outline using the chronological ordering paradigm.

E-library's titling system should make this process very easy.

Please provide evidence of your work.
