Chapter Objectives

Chapter Nine follows the process of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival's mounting of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. After reading this chapter you should:

1.

Understand the function of the artistic director, managing director, and general director.

2.

Be familiar with the plot, subplot, and characters in The Taming of the Shrew as well as the unique characteristics of this particular production of the play.

3.

Understand that almost one hundred staff are hired and cast each summer so that the festival can take place. Be aware of what the different staff do, and what their functions are.

4.

Be familiar with the elements that need to come together to produce a summer production for the Illinois Shakespeare festival.
