Our way of life is heavily dependent on both the availability of electricity on a large scale, and on the convenience of personal power sources, such as batteries. The portable electronics market’s demand for compact, mobile, and lightweight energy sources has been a major factor in developing advanced battery technology. The common feature among all types of batteries is the transfer of electrons. The title of this chapter reflects the importance of this fundamental process.
