The Fugue

Summary

A fugue is a polyphonic composition based on a main theme (subject), and different melodic lines (voices) that imitate the main theme. The texture of a fugue consists of three to five voices (soprano to bass), shifting through key changes in keys as well as through melodic and rhythmic ideas. One consistent feature of a fugue is that it nearly always begins with one voice. More information on fugues can be found through the resources below.
