The Twentieth Century
Neoclassicism

Summary

Neoclassicism in music, as represented by artists like Stravinsky, and Hindemith, represents a return to forms, structures and other stylistic approaches of the 18th Century. The "back to Bach" approach emblematic of this movement reflects a reaction against the Impressionist period in music. Great artists like Picasso and the poet T.S. Elliot contributed to the Neoclassic period as well, though their approach towards drawing inspiration from Greek art and literature had a decidedly 20th Century flair.
