Summary

The cultures of India and Asia have instruments and highly articulate musical styles that go back thousands of years. The development of Indian performance culture is similar to that of European music, originating in temples and courts, then expanding to the public at large in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Asian musical styles are diverse, and Japanese music specifically was strongly influenced by China. Use the web resources below to learn more about the traditions in music associated with these cultures.
