Internet Exercises

1) What do line officers think about implementing community policing? Do they prefer it over traditional patrol? Go to www.ssc.msu.edu/~cj/cp/cptoc.html and read "Community Policing: The Line Officer's Perspectives." According to the officers surveyed, what are the strengths and weaknesses of foot patrol? Have perceptions of community policing among officers changed since they conducted motorized patrol? What are the traits of a good foot patrol officer? Do officers feel more a part of the community than when they were assigned to motorized patrol?

2) Many organizations offer community policing training to line officers. Search the web for community policing training. What types of training are offered? What topics do the training address? Do these organizations provide much information on the training? A good place to start is www.communitypolicing.org. Search under "Curricula" for community policing training modules.
