Supplementary Materials

The supplements listed here may accompany In giro per l'Italia. Please contact your local McGraw-Hill Campus Representative for details concerning policies, prices, and availability, as some restrictions may apply.

For the Instructor:

  • The Instructor's Edition of the text, with annotations by Maria Mann of Nassau Community College, contains a wide variety of on-page annotations, including suggestions for presenting the grammar material, ideas for recycling vocabulary and grammar, variations and expansion exercises, and follow-up questions for the mini-dialogues that introduce many grammar points.
  • The Audio Program for the Laboratory Manual is available in both audiocassette and audio CD formats. These are provided to all adopting institutions and are also available for student purchase.
  • An Audioscript containing all of the material on the Audio Program is available to instructors only.
  • The Instructor's Manual and Testing Program contains information on planning a course syllabus, chapter-by-chapter teaching notes, expanded information on testing, sample oral interviews devised in accordance with ACTFL proficiency guidelines, answers to exercises in the student text and Workbook, and discussions about interaction in the classroom, the use of authentic materials, and using In giro per l'Italia in the proficiency-oriented classroom. The Videoscript for the text-specific video is also found within the Instructor's Manual. The complete Testing Program is accompanied by a Testing Audio Program that is available in both audiocassette and audio CD formats and comes packaged with the Instructor's Manual and Testing Program.
  • Available in both Windows and Macintosh formats, the Electronic Testing Program contains the tests found in the printed Testing Program, but provides the flexibility of electronically modifying or adapting the tests to suit the needs of your students. The Electronic Testing Program is also packaged with the Testing Audio Program.
  • A two-part video that is integrated with the student text.
  • The CD-ROM, which is available for student purchase, is also available to instructors in an Institutional Lab Pack which contains twenty copies of the CD-ROM. All of the activities of the CD-ROM focus on the vocabulary and grammar of a given chapter. Recording and printing capabilities make the CD-ROM a true four-skills ancillary. In addition to a link to the In giro per l'Italia Web page, and a "talking" dictionary, the CD-ROM also includes the McGraw-Hill Electronic Language Tutor (MHELT) program which provides focused practice with the grammar and vocabulary of each chapter in the textbook.
  • A set of full-color Overhead Transparencies is useful for presenting and practicing vocabulary.
  • A Manual and Practical Guide for Directing Foreign Language Programs and Training Graduate Teaching Assistants, by James F. Lee (University of Indiana at Bloomington), offers practical advice for beginning language instructors and language coordinators.

For the student:

  • The Workbook/Laboratory Manual, by Andrea Dini of Hofstra University, provides additional practice with vocabulary and structures through a variety of written exercises, and provides listening and speaking practice outside the classroom. Self tests appear after every third chapter of the Workbook to help students prepare for exams. Material in the Laboratory Manual includes pronunciation practice, vocabulary and grammar exercises, dictations, and listening comprehension sections that simulate authentic interaction. Answers to the Workbook exercises appear in the Instructor's Manual.
  • A Student Audio Program, available in both audiocassette and audio CD formats, coordinates with the Laboratory Manual.
  • The Listening Comprehension Program, coordinated with the In ascolto activities in Lezione 4 of the text, is provided on either audiocassette or audio CD and comes packaged with the student text. The scripts and answers for the In ascolto activities appear in the Answer Key to the Student Text section of the Instructor's Manual.
  • The CD-ROM provides students with even more chapter-by-chapter grammar and vocabulary practice. It also includes a link to the In giro per l'Italia Web page, a "talking" dictionary which allows students to hear words pronounced by a native speaker, and a function that allows students to record themselves speaking Italian. Student work can be printed or emailed to the instructor. In addition, clips from the video that is used in class are accessible on the CD-ROM. Also included is the McGraw-Hill Electronic Language Tutor or MHELT, a useful tool for independent student work that includes all of the single response exercises from the student text, and provides a range of helpful feedback including hints for wrong answers, verb conjugations, and other reference material. This program is available in IBM and Macintosh formats.
  • The Rand-McNally New Millennium World Atlas on CD-ROM, available for student purchase, contains numerous detailed maps. In addition, this robust CD-ROM includes visuals and textual information (in English) about key events in history, famous figures, important cities, and so on. The detail and information provided significantly enhance the foreign language experience from a cultural, historical, and geographical perspective.
  • A Practical Guide to Language Learning, by H. Douglas Brown (San Francisco State University), provides beginning foreign language students with a general introduction to the language learning process.
