As you know, financial accounting differs in many ways from managerial accounting. If you think back to your financial accounting course, you may recall the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (the AICPA). The Prologue of this managerial accounting text introduced you to the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), a professional organization of management accountants.

The IMA maintains a web site for students at http://web.imanet.org/academia/. Visit the site and do the following:

1. From the list of types of positions that most organizations have for management accounting trainees, identify those that relate to managerial rather than financial accounting. (Access the information as follows: Click on the Administration Building and then on the "How Do I Start My Career?" link that is listed under "Career Counseling" in the left hand column of the Administration Building site.)
2. Read the article, IMA, Students, and Professors: Partners in Progress, by Gary A. Luoma, and Keith A. Russell, and summarize the programs that the IMA sponsors for students. (Access the article as follows: Click on the Library Building that appears on the IMA student site. Get the list of issues by clicking on the "imastudents.org magazine" link in the left hand column of the Library site. After clicking on the Issue 2 link, choose this article.)
3. Briefly describe the two types of scholarships that are sponsored by the IMA. . (Access the information as follows: Click on the Administration Building and then on the Financial Aid Office link in the left hand column of the Administration Building site.)
