Chapter Overview| 1. Greece, and in particular Athens, produced extraordinarily creative philosophers, dramatists, historians, architects, and sculptors during the Classical Age (500--323).
2. Philip II and Alexander took advantage of the disunity among the Greek city-states to bring Macedonia to dominance in Greece. Alexander led a force that conquered the Persian Empire.
3. The period between the death of Alexander and that of Cleopatra is called the Hellenistic Age, a period of large warring kingdoms, great cities, relative prosperity, and important cultural accomplishments. |
