Reflecting on Teaching

Glossary

Action research  Process of conducting school-based research to improve teaching and learning.
Dialogue journal  A journal recording a running conversation that expresses thoughts, questions, and problems related to the roles, responsibilities, and practices of teaching.
Inquiry-oriented teaching  The highly individual process of reflecting on one's teaching in order to make rational, deliberate decisions about teaching and learning.
Laboratory experiences  Scaled-down teaching experiences carried out on campus, often with a small group of peers, rather than in an actual classroom setting.
Reflection  Learning from experience through the ongoing process of critically examining and refining teaching practice. Takes place by considering the personal, educational, social, and ethical aspects of schooling.
Reflective Teaching  A laboratory experience in a supportive environment that allows one to teach a lesson which serves as a basis for subsequent analysis and introspection.
