Московский зоологический парк was first opened to the public during the reign of Император Александр II. By the end of the Soviet era the зоопарк had fallen into disrepair, but a massive reconstruction project in the 1990s turned the aging zoo into a state-of-the-art facility. How many different виды (species) and экземпляры (here: individual animals) does the zoo have in its коллекция?

Площадь зоопарка (area occupied by the zoo)? Remember that Russians measure area in hectares — гектары, abbreviated as "га."

Hit the "back" button on your browser, and then click on the link labeled животные (animals). At the bottom of this page you'll find a live link labeled жирафы. Click on this link. This жираф is one of the more famous residents of the Московский зоопарк. (Click to enlarge the photograph.) Scan the text for the following information:

In the bottom center of the жираф page you'll find a link labeled картоплан. Click on it. Before you is the план, or map, of the Московский зоопарк.

Pick your favorite animals and click on the appropriate icons to see pictures of the animals and where they live at the zoo. The texts on these pages are rather complicated, so don't try to understand every word. Your task here is to glean what you can from the text, study the photographs, and then describe what you've seen in your own words, consulting a dictionary only when absolutely necessary.
