Environmental Scorecard

Find out how the U.S. Congress voted on key environmental issues by going to the web page of the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) at www.lcv.org/ . You can download the entire scorecard in PDF format or view the full Senate or full House vote online. To find out how your own senators and congressional representative voted, search by state, enter the name of a specific member, or enter your zip code and click on go. Look at the descriptions of the specific issues on which the rating was based to learn more about them and to see if you agree with the assessment offered by this scorecard. The LCV may regard voting in a particular way to be pro- or anti-environmental, but do you agree? Note that an absence during a specific vote is recorded as negative, even if the absence was for illness or some other valid reason. Under the Overview section in the left frame on the scorecard page, you can learn more about the issues discussed by Congress. To keep up to date on current issues, you can visit the websites of specific groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (www.nrdc.org/legislation/legwatch.asp) or the Endangered Species Coalition (www.stopextinction.org/). The Thomas website of the U.S. Library of Congress (thomas.loc.gov/) allows you to find the latest action in Congress.
