center of gravity method  a method for locating a distribution center that minimizes the costs of distribution.
factor rating  a general approach to evaluating locations that includes quantitative and qualitative inputs.
geographical information system (GIS)  a computer-based tool for collecting, storing, retrieving and displaying demographic data on maps.
locational cost-profit-volume analysis  a technique for evaluating location choices in economic terms.
microfactory  a small factory with a narrow product focus located near a major market.
threshold  a minimum required value for a composite factor rating score; if an alternative does not meet or exceed the threshold value, it is eliminated from further consideration.
