Some Latin jazz ventures have proven to be quite commercially successful, for instance, Stan Getz with the bossa nova and Chick Corea with the samba. These successes occurred at times that much mainstream jazz struggled for widespread commercial appeal. Why do you suppose this was the case? Consider what other jazz movements were taking place concurrently. Are there qualities of Latin jazz (based on your own listening as well as reading) that might appeal to general listeners?
