Conclusion: What We Do and Do Not Know About Finance

This chapter summarizes the extent of our knowledge and the limitations of finance theory, as we know it now. The thirty-four chapters of the Brealey and Myers text and this guide covered the entire landscape of corporate financial management. The concluding chapter does two things: it highlights what we can claim with some certainty as things we know – the most important ideas and concepts of corporate finance; and it also points out the areas where we still are a long way from complete understanding.

We dispense with the format used so far in this guide and simply provide a brief annotated list of what we know and what we don’t.
