Pluto is usually the nine planet in the solar system. However, because of its orbit is irregular, it is sometimes closer than Neptune, the eighth planet. The last time this happened was 1977 to 1999. Pluto not a large planet. Its dimeter is estimate at 1,500 to 22,400 miles. With its neighbors Neptune and uranus which are large gas planets, Pluto is made of rock. Pluto was discover in 1930 by Clyde tombaugh. It has only one moon called Charon. James Christy was discovered it in 1978. Because its small size and rocky make-up, some sientists believe that Pluto is not a planet at all but just a large asteroid.
