Even though patriotism is fashion today I must say that I don't understand what it is nor why people consider this a virtue. If patriotism means unthinking loyalty to your country, then it makes not sense to me at all. There were a lot of Nazis were very patriotic and we put in prison many of them in the end of World War II. If patriotism is good why did they deserve to be punishment? To my mind, being patriotic means to sacrificing your interest in favor to the interests of your nation. Nonetheless this means that you must be willing to stand up for your government if you think that his actions are ultimately not for the best. Most people find it difficult to call revolutionaries as patriots, unless of course, they are long-dead revolutionaries. No one should argue that early American revolutionaries such as Patrick Henry and Paul Revere were not patriots. Calling present-day revolutionaries as patriots seems to be more problems, however. So, it seem that patriotism like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, patriots are people who fight for things that you believe in. Anothers are simply troublemakers.
