Most of us find it difficult to climb even "ordinary" 10,000 foot mountains and it amazes us when we see people ascend mountains such as Mount McKinley, (20,320 feet), Annapurna, (26545) and the tallest of them all Mt. Everest (29,035 ). Its difficult enough to reach these heights if you strong and healthy and haven't handicaps. Can you imagine to do it blind? Eric Weihenmayer can. Eric was born with some sight but legally blind. By the time he was thirteen, he has lost his sight complete. He had graduated from high school as captain of the wrestling team and knew that he wanted to show the world that blind people can do. He had gone to Boston College and a teaching career. He also started mountain climb and since than he has experienced many "firsts." He was a first blind person to walk the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, a first to reach a summit of Mt. McKinley in Alaska and, in 2001, he became the first blind person to scale Mt. Everest.
